I had a major change in my life last September and have since then caught myself debating whether or not to blog about it? This is a non-knitting personal post, so if you read my blog for my knitting updates you may want to skip this one….
I suddenly felt like I was keeping a secret rather than keeping my personal life to myself, so I have decided to do a quick post. Also, I have found that I still have not told some friends, the ones that I don’t see or talk to frequently enough, and was feeling bad that I had not told them (sorry loves, I hope you read this). My husband Ethan and I separated in September. It was truly the best thing for us to do and we remain and I believe always will be truly great friends and family to each other. We are both doing well and I think have heard our fill of very well meaning, sympathetic words.
Ethan and I were married 3 years ago (but had been together for 13!!!) and I in no way wish to take back any of the time we spent together. Still, it was a big change. The strangest part for me was finding a new routine, I did not expect this. It was daunting and exciting to find a new rhythm to my daily life, but I now feel that I am there. That is why I was not as prolific with my designing and blog posting this winter, I got caught up in my social life. And dating again, which after 13 years was much more fun than I remembered!
I hope that you all too are doing well and getting excited about the slowly approaching Spring.
xoxo
Cecily
I know how it feels to keep something from your blog. I’m sure you feel relieved to have written this. Enjoy the dating and Happy Spring!

Cecily, I don’t know you personally, but I do love and follow your patterns. I indeed did wonder why I didn’t see much work being posted here over the last months and now I see why now. I hope that the new excitement and fun in your life gives inspiration to your designs and elsewhere in your life. (Your latest cardigan is beautiful.) Sincerely, Elizabeth

First time commenter (weird considering how long I have followed your design career). Anyway, my sister is turning 50 next month and decided to move out of the house she shared with her husband after 16 years of marriage. It’s a brave new world on pretty much every front, but it seems that you are finding what she is: that you’re capable of adapting to it and proving to yourself that you can handle more than you thought! Best to you during this transition.

Life is life. The most important thing is that you continue to feel good and you must remember all the moments you had together. Now, a new part of your life is beginning.

Been there. Done that. The blues and loneliness can be real downers, but it sounds like you have turned a corner. Good luck and happiness to you.

Yes, getting used to a new routine is the hardest part… but once you do, or at least once I did, I felt back in control of my own life. And happy. I love the man I am with now and I am still very good friends with my ex, so I wish the best for you and your future!

I’m glad you are in a good place. Life has a funny way of being painful and right at the same time. As for knitting, you are one of my favorite designers, I hope you continue to find what inspires you.

Cecily, I don’t know you personally, but I have always admired your work, and we have some friends in common. You certainly don’t owe anyone any personal information, so I appreciate your sharing this with your blog readers. All the best!

I’m sorry to hear this, Cecily. I’ve been down that road, too, and have come out on the other side in a wonderful place I’d never thought I’d be (geographical, emotional, etc.). My best advice is to keep knitting and know that there are a lot of us rooting for you.

Wow, my husband and I also separated in September after 17 years together. It was my idea but it wasn’t any less hard. I understand your hesitation about blogging about it. I didn’t mention it on my blog until after Christmas. *hugs*
