CAST ON AND BIND OFF METHODS

Backwards Loop Cast On: *Wrap yarn around left thumb from front to back and secure in palm with other fingers. Insert needle upwards through strand on thumb. Slip loop from thumb onto right-hand needle, pulling yarn to tighten. Repeat from * for desired number of stitches.
Cable Cast On: *Insert right-hand needle between first 2 stitches on left-hand needle, knit 1 stitch from this position, leave the first stitch on left-hand needle and slip new stitch onto left-hand needle. Repeat from * for desired number of stitches.
Lace Bind Off: Knit 2, slip the 2 stitches just worked back to the left-hand needle, knit these two sts together. *Knit 1, slip 2 stitches from right-hand needle back to left-hand needle, knit 2 together; repeat from * to end. On the last 2 stitches, knit 2 together, cut yarn and draw tail through remaining stitch.
Three Needle Bind Off: With the right sides of garment pieces together (to form ridge on wrong side of piece), hold the needles parallel. With a third needle knit the first stitch on front and back needles together, *knit next stitch from each needle together (2 stitches on right-hand needle), bind off 1 stitch; rep from * until all stitches are bound off.

BODY STITCHES

Garter st (Garter stitch): When working flat, knit all rows. When working in the round, knit 1 round, purl 1 round.
Rev St st (Reverse Stockinette stitch): When working flat, purl all right side (RS) rows and knit all wrong side (WS) rows. When working in the round, purl all rounds.
St st (Stockinette stitch): When working flat, knit all right side (RS) rows and purl all wrong side (WS) rows. When working in the round, knit all rounds.

DECREASES

ssk (slip, slip, knit): Slip 2 stitches, 1 at a time, knitwise to the right-hand needle; return stitches to left-hand needle in turned position and knit them together through the back loops (1 stitch decreased).
sssk (slip, slip, slip, knit): Slip 3 stitches, 1 at a time, knitwise to the right- hand needle; return stitches to left-hand needle in turned position and knit them together through the back loops (2 stitches decreased).
s2kp: Slip 2 stitches together knitwise to the right-hand needle, knit 1, pass 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch (2 stitches decreased).

INCREASES

k1-r/b: Slightly twist work on left-hand needle towards you so that the wrong side (WS) of work is visible. Insert right-hand needle from top down into next stitch on left-hand needle one row below. Knit this stitch, then knit the stitch on the left-hand needle (1 stitch increased).
p1-f/b: Purl into the front loop, then the back loop of next stitch (1 stitch increased).
m1 (make 1): Insert left-hand needle under horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch, from the front to the back, and knit through the back (1 stitch increased).
m1-l (make 1 left slanting): Insert left-hand needle under horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch, from the front to the back, and knit through the back loop (1 stitch increased).
m1-r (make 1 right slanting): Insert left-hand needle under horizontal strand between stitch just worked and next stitch, from the back to the front, and knit through the front loop (1 stitch increased).
